You’re Invited to Attend the Opening Reception of “Embracing the Unexpected”

You’re invited to celebrate the joys and benefits of art and art making in later life at the opening reception of “Embracing the Unexpected”!
Do you believe older adults are beyond creative self-expression? In fact, our elders are often unbound from the rules that can limit creativity earlier in life. The showcase features the artists of Syracuse Jewish Family Service’s arts-in-aging and arts-in-dementia programs including OMA — Opening Minds Through Art and the M-Power U Arts & Minds Community. Enjoy the many exceptional pieces they have created over the past year in various media: painting, mixed media, collage, poetry, and more! This past year our artists explored several unconventional art techniques and engaged in projects that incorporated an element of surprise.
Join SJFS and some of the artists represented in the exhibit at an opening reception at Menorah Park on Tuesday February 11 from 3:30-5:00pm. The reception is free and open to the general public.
Curated by Syracuse Jewish Family Service, artwork from Embracing the Unexpected will be in the Jewish Home Gallery corridor and Bistro at Menorah Park of CNY from February 4 – March 31, 2025. This showcase is made possible through the CNY Arts Grants for Regional Arts and Cultural Engagement regrant program and administered by the New York State Council on the Arts, as well as the Alzheimer’s Foundation of America, Leonard and Irwin Kamp Family Foundation and many individual donors and corporate sponsors.
Join in a collective “YES” to the full potential of the full-span of human life. Enjoy the art and participate in creating an aging-friendly community that celebrates the human potential for creativity and unlocks arts and minds at all ages!
Please contact Hannah Pietra, Arts & Minds coordinator, at pietrah@sjfs.org or call (315)446-9111 ext 130 for any questions.
